Jodhpur, India

Yes, the jodhpur riding britches were invented by the Raj for playing polo. Jodhpur is the "blue city". Many of the houses in the old section are painted blue, for some reason. We stayed in a guest house called a haveli, meaning old house. This has been in the Singhvi family for 450 years, since the Raj prince gave this house and others to his finance minister for service. At that time it was 50 years old.
The Mehrangarh fort has guarded the area since that era and towers above the city. The environment is very similar to the Arizona desert, scrub mesquite-type trees and high canyon walls, and the fort is built into the canyon walls.
